Spring Conference 2024: Recap

On April 26 – 28, 2024, Project LIFE provided a weekend Spring Hybrid Statewide Youth Conference in the Western region with in-person and virtual participants for selected workshops using our Zoom application. This conference was located in Bristol, Virginia at the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel throughout the weekend.

The theme of this conference was “The Game Of LIFE: Western Edition”, with specific hands-on and interactive life skills workshops connecting the youth to real life and a practical experience approach for youth engagement. We provided an incentive-based system with gameplay-style money to simulate an economic system throughout the weekend for youth engagement and the life skills sessions.

Piedmont Region

Friday, June 7th at 10am via Zoom

All professionals in the Piedmont Region are welcome to join.

Project LIFE will be a vendor for Great Expectations’ graduation banquet for Virginia Western Community College on Tuesday June 11th at 5:30pm.

Who can attend: Students who are Great Expectations eligible who have completed their GED or High School Diploma in the 2023/2024 academic year. Families and case workers can attend alongside the student. 

Join Project LIFE at the UMFS Farmville office on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 @ 1:30pm. Please reach out for details and to RSVP! 

For youth 14 and up, in person at UMFS’s Farmville office at 306E 3rd St. Suite B, Farmville VA 23901.  

Food, fun, and prizes will be provided! Join in for Project LIFE’s version of Grocery Games and learn valuable budgeting skills against the racing clock!

Project LIFE’S Sneaker Snatch!

Shoe detailing workshop to teach youth how to stay fresh and keep your sneakers clean, whole time, boosting your  positive self-esteem!

If you have ever thought about starting your own business but don’t know where to begin, Project LIFE may be able to help!! 

Project Life will host an in-person & virtual meeting on June13th, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm @ UMFS Innovation Station Conference Room for all youth interested in learning more about entrepreneurship.  We will explore youth interests, ideas, and thoughts about starting their own business.  We will brainstorm and talk more about ways Project LIFE may be able to assist youth in establishing a business plan, learning how to apply for an LLC and much more!  Bring all your fresh ideas, plans, and thoughts as we strategize in this Shark POOL workshop!

Severe Weather Safety and Survival

Planning Ahead for Severe Weather 

Develop a personal safety kit for you and your family. Remember, you need to have a plan for wherever you may be when severe weather strikes – at home, at school, at work, on the road or in a public building. Know what the threats are for your area. You must be able to get to your safe area quickly; you may only have seconds to act! Your first step to surviving severe weather is to develop a plan before storms are on the horizon! Join Project LIFE and Project LIFE’s alumni staff, Sophia Booker, as we discuss Weather Preparedness on June 18th, 2024 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on UMFS campus in the Auditorium. 

Let’s put our best foot forward this summer!!
